Description

Ladies and gents, this eBay auction is for a rare / “hard to find” copy of Blind Boy Fuller’s 78 RPM record of  “Mama Let Me Lay It On You” and “Black and Tan” on side B. This recording is on the “Perfect” label. Please examine the photos, as they give a good indication of this records true condition.

This auction will include “FREE USPS Priority Shipping” throughout the continental US, (lower 48 states). Also, the winning bidder will receive a tracking number and insurance for the entire sale price. No international bidders at this time please.

I promise to package this record to survive the “tender mercies” of the United States postal service. I am known for over-kill when packaging. I will give this record the care and attention that will get this piece of rare vinyl safely to your door. (Double-Boxed, etc.)

Blind Boy Fuller was a Piedmont Blues singer who was born named Fulton Allen in Wadesboro, North Carolina in 1907. While born fully sighted, he lost his sight as a young man and was completely blind by 1928. In 1935 Allen secured a recording contract, and over the next few years recorded over 100 sides. During this time he also changed his name to “Blind Boy Fuller.” Fuller became known for his blues style which often featured, “explicit and uninhibited lyrics”.

Fuller died in 1941 at the age of 33 and was buried in Durham, NC. His musical creativity was later recognized by some of rock music’s greats, such as the “Rolling Stones”, and the “Grateful Dead.” Blind Boy Fuller is considered by many blues musicologists to be the greatest of the Piedmont Bluesmen.

“Mama Let Me Lay It on You,” was a song that had been attributed to the earlier singer Rev. Gary Davis’ songbook. Later, Eric Von Schmidt renamed Blind Boy Fuller’s version of the song to: “Baby, Let Me Follow You Down,” which Bob Dylan subsequently recorded on his debut album.

Fuller was famous for his National Duolian Resonator Guitar, (some people might call this a dobro or steel guitar). This powerful instrument was needed for a street musician to overcome traffic noise. (I am not sure if this instrument was used on this recording, or if it is recorded with a acoustic guitar.)

While I am a fairly serious collector of vinyl, I would not term myself an expert or an authority on vintage recordings. I am unsure when this album was produced, pre-WW II or post-WW II. (It could be as late as the 1950's I suppose).

Record Condition: All in all, this album is in “good” condition, especially for its age. There is one scratch, about two inches in length, on side A, “Mama, Let Me Lay It On You”, from the outer edge in, (beginning of the song). There is also a small flea bite on the reverse side, (“Black and Tan”) at the outer edge, (this does not affect any of the grooves or the records playablity) The album label is in also very good condition showing only a few spindle marks.

I have not cleaned this record…. in spite of having the correct equipment and chemicals, (I maintain my personal collection of over 1000 albums). I will let the new purchaser do a cleaning to his or her standards, (BTW, the record is pretty clean already).

All in all, this is a fantastic opportunity to pick up an original vintage recording from a recognized blues master. Please feel free to email me any questions or concerns that you may have concerning this auction.

eBay Listing Rules and Regulations:

My eBay Philosophy:

I believe that bidding / buying on eBay should be FUN with little or NO STRESS involved.

Please Read:

If you are unhappy or disappointed with any item that I sell please

contact me ASAP! I'm sure we can work through any concern that you may

have. BTW, if you are going to use the eBay rating system, please give

me full marks...anything less than the maximum positive rating, eBay

sees as a fault and will rank me lower than perhaps I deserve. Really

with eBay, it's a "pass" or "fail", an "A" or an "F". Please feel free

to email me with any questions that you have concerning feedback.

My rules and regulations are pretty laid back:

I accept PayPal, (in all forms).

I welcome international bidders as long as they are aware of the

shipping costs involved.

I will NEVER charge a handling or packaging fee.

I do NOT mark up shipping charges to make a profit.

I package items like they are going down the Zambesi.

I pride myself on being easy to deal with...communication is the key

to a happy buying experience.!

If you have a legitimate complaint about your purchase let me know and

we'll work something out!

I have been doing business on eBay as a buyer and seller for 15  years

now. I have bought and sold over 4100 items. I truly strive for

customer satisfaction and I pride myself on fair and accurate

descriptions. If you have any questions please feel free to email

away. Many of the items I sell are "as is due" to their age. Again,

please ask me any question you may have concerning any of my auctions.

Please bid only if you plan to pay for the above auction. No pays will

be reported to eBay in accordance with the rules. (Winning bidders who

fail to fulfill their responsibilities will be stricken with E.D.,

halitosis, male pattern baldness, and bad Karma for the rest of their

life!  8^D   )

Here's an update concerning bidders with negative feedback....Please

contact me via email if you have 10% or more of your total feedback

rating consisting of negative feedback or if you have received 2 or

more negative feedbacks in the last 6 months BEFORE you place a bid on

one of my auctions.  For example, if you have a feedback rating of 20

and have 3 negative feedbacks we need to talk. If you have an overall

negative feedback rating you must also contact me before bidding. If

you email me before you bid chances are I will give you a green light.

I feel I must institute this new policy to combat the increase in

recreational bidders who have no intent on following through. Sorry

for the added conditions guys.....I try to give all my customers a

pleasant eBay buying experience at my online auctions.

Again, Thanks for looking!

eBay Rating System:

A note to the winning bidder:

Please consider and give me a 5 star rating if you are pleased with

your purchase. A 4 star rating is not helpful; anything lower than a 5

causes my items to drop in the search categories. It also makes me

incur higher fees which in turn will not allow me to continue selling

on eBay. I make no profit on shipping and do not charge for handling

or packing materials. I do my best to provide an exceptional buyer

experience, as you will see by feedback. I do my best for you and hope

you will give me a 5 star rating in return. If for any reason you are

not absolutely delighted with your transaction, please let me know and

I will work it out to your satisfaction. Thank you for considering my

items.
