Description
Blue Note BLP-1568 Hank Mobley LP. Heavy vinyl double-sided deep groove with the 47 West 63rd NYC address and RVG and ear in the trail-off wax. One of the rarest and most coveted jazz LPs and the Holy Grail of Blue Notes. The legend is 500 copies were pressed in one run. Sidemen are Bill Hardman, Curtis Porter, Sonny Clark, Paul Chambers, and Art Taylor. Tunes are Mighty Moe and Joe/Falling In Love With Love/Bags' Groove/Double Exposure/News.
Condition - Grading is Visual
Cover is a nice VG+. There is some light wear on the corners and along the opening edges. The lower right corner has a small ding. Nice seams with no splits. The back slick has a name written in ink in the top left corner that has been partially erased and faintly visible along with a little wrinkling on the bottom edge and some light age toning. Front graphics with too-cool Hank with sunglasses tooting his horn are beautiful.
LP is a nice glossy VG+ with some light sleeve spots and a few faint hairlines, nothing feelable. Has been examined under bright light.
Labels have a few very faint spindle marks visible angled light.
Overall not a perfect or NM but a very pretty copy that radiates vintage mojo. In my record collecting experience there has been nothing like having this LP in my hands for the first time. It has been a privilege to own this record but it is time to send it out back into the world. You will not see too many nicer copies - this copy should make all but the most demanding collector very happy.
Grading
Grading is NM, VG+, VG. The myriad of grading systems on Ebay is a good indicator of the subjective nature of grading. In my opinion NM is close to perfect with one or two very minor flaws, VG+ is above average and collectable and VG is average used condition but probably the best choice for playing. I'm a collector and try to describe LPs as accurately as possible, the way I would want them described to me. The pictures should at least give a good indication of the condition of the covers and labels. Please see my seller feedback for comments on my grading. If you don't agree with how I'm calling a record that is your privilege but with all respect please don't bid.
