Blur The Wassailing Song promo 7" vinyl

Only 500 copies pressed.
Blur's cover of a medieval English Christmas carol that Damon Albarn & Graham Coxon had sung at school.
Recorded during a break in the initial sessions for 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' -- just before the writing and recording of 'For Tomorrow'
Each member of Blur sings a verse, and they all sing the refrain together. This is the only song in Dave Rowntree ever sings on.
Given away at a Christmas gig in December 1992 at the Hibernian Club, Fulham, London. According to a Food Records executive, it was said to be,
"a completely pointless gig which ended up costing money"
As the gig was at the point when the music press reckoned that Blur were finished, the touts outside the gig couldn't even give tickets away. The hall was less than half full. Blur turned in a fantastic set and at the end we all drunkenly queued up to get our free seven-inch from a Liverpudlian dressed as Santa.
Only about five minutes into the giveaway, one of my friends got impatient and lent over the barrier to get one of the records out of Santa's sack himself. The barrier collapsed and then everyone just started grabbing at the records. A lot of them ended up littering the floor and being trampled on. My friends and I came away with a total of about ten copies. Only three of those made it back home without being nearly destroyed (my friends were too drunk to look after them).
Although five hundred were pressed, I'd say that a lot less than that were actually given away or survived the night.
Interestingly, I know the history of this particular copy that I am selling -- it was left behind in Santa's sack and was the possession of a record company employee until he decided to sell it, along with a box of other rarities, to my local record store eight years later. I received it as a Christmas gift. Regretfully, I must now sell it.
Very good condition. It has only been played about three times.
