Description
The Collector's edition, No. 2734/5000 18 discs of various media types, claiming to offer "every note recorded during the 1965-1966 sessions, every alternate take, and alternate lyric."
Previously owned by an obsessive Dylan collector, has spent its entire life on a display shelf.
As I began to inspect this boxed set for sale and photography, several things became immediately clear.
1) I would quickly run into the e-Bay limit of photographs; There was no practical way to document the entire contents of the box, nor was it necessary.2) I was likely the first person to have ever removed any of the material from the box; The spines of the books and other folders suggest that they have never been opened, and I can safely say the previous owner would not have removed or played any of the discs, whether vinyl or CD, as he also owned multiple copies of both the "Best of" and "Deluxe" edition of this set, as well as "original" vinyl bootlegs from the period. None of the music would have been new to him... It was purchased to be a different kind of "trophy".
Having satisfied myself that all components were present, and in as new condition, I realized I would only risk reassembling it in the incorrect order, damaging the books by opening them wide enough to properly photograph, or getting fingerprints on the glossy surfaces. In that spirit, and because the exact contents of these sets is well documented elsewhere, I left much of it undisturbed. Anyone looking at this is probably already quite familiar with this material, my descriptions would be of little benefit. I include a "screen shot" of another example, and I suspect there are "unboxing" videos on You-Tube, for those who find them interesting.
