Description

This week we're lucky to be able to offer a number of extremely rare Dylan related items, including two distinct two sided 10" acetates of Like A Rolling Stone, arguably Dylan's best known composition.

The rarity and historical importance of these items is impossible to overstate. We will do our best to describe their condition in full.

This listing is for the first of these acetates, and is of particular interest in that it sees "Like A Rolling Stone" split into two parts in order to accommodate the limited run time of a 45 rpm single. An arrangement that was replicated on the promotional issue of the Like A Rolling Stone 7", and on a few internationally issued variants.

This acetate has no labels. The  matrix number CO 86446 Dash I is written in what appears to be white wax pencil on either side of the disc. Sides A and B are designated Part I and Part II respectively, and Dylan's name is written on Side A of the disc. The disc is in nice shape, visually VG+, more details on its condition can be found below.

The already significant historical value of this disc is further increased by the manilla sleeve in which it is housed, which bears a brief note from producer Tom Wilson to Columbia higher up Kenneth Donald Glancy. Wilson writes 'Ken - This is the Part I and II version of Dylan single. Have edited 6:00 version also. - Tom'. High resolution photos of the sleeve can be seen above. Close ups of the label areas of this acetate can be seen below.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this item, and don't forget check out the remainder of this week's listing which includes a wealth of amazing Dylan related rarities, including a 10" acetate of the 6:00 version of Like A Rolling Stone' that Tom Wilson refers to in his note to Kenneth Glancy.

CONDITION:

Jacket grade, note:

Disc grade, note: VG+, this disc is in great shape, the play surfaces are visually VG+, there are a number of light scratches to the label areas where the matrix #s and song title are written in wax pencil, and some to the blank outer areas of the disc, but none of these affect the play surfaces proper, which are startlingly clean

All discs are cleaned and conservatively graded as follows:NM, VG++, VG+, VG, VG-, and G.
