Description
Very rare and generally good condition 1950 STINSON Acetate of Bob Dylan's mentor Woody Guthrie performing with Cisco Houston, Josh White and Alek Stewart on this 10" disc. This single sided EMI Emidisc acetate "CHAIN GANG VOL. 3" contains 6 songs recorded for Moses Asch's Stinson label in April 1944. When Asch suffered bankruptcy in the 1940s his partner in the record company was left with 100s of master recordings and auctioned them off, mostly to Pickwick which subsequently released them on its specialist Everest imprint. The songs on this acetate were originally released on three 78s in 1948 and later transcribed onto a 1950 10" vinyl. This disc, with its hand written label was used as a review copy in early 1950 as an advance of the release of the 10" SLP8. Read my feedback if unsure.
