Description
Jamaican producres have long been noted for being unscrupulous, especially when it comes to releasing Jamaican records in Britain. Both sides of this 45 had been released as A-sides in their own right on Trojan's Upsetter subsidiary, but here they both are on Punch - a subsidiary of Pama, cut from pristine first generation master tapes. It seems likely that "Scratch" Perry simply sold the tapes for a flat fee two two different labels. On to the music. Everybody should know Bob Marley's boastful attack (although Lee Perry says he wrote it) on Coxsone, Duke Reid and Federal "Small Axe" - this copy is in E- condition and has hardly been played. On the other side is Dave Barker, with backing vocals by Bunny Wailer, voicing "What a Confusion". The rhythm is an update of "Peenie Wallie"/"Duppy Conqueror", and you might recognise it as the same track used for U-Roy's mighty "Earthquake". It's definitely one of Dave Barker's best singing tunes and it's also in E- condition. There is a soundclip attached -
