Description
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This outstanding and rare LP from Eterna (825 484, East German pressing, blue/white label – ED1, stereo) features the under-rated conductor Heinz Bongartz in powerful and deeply felt accounts of Paul Hindemith’s Nobilissima Visone and Max Reger’s 4 Tondichtungen nach Arnold Böcklin, both recorded with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in the rich acoustics of the Lukaskirche, Dresden 9 October 1963 and 15 June 1964, respectively. With Otmar Suitner, Herbert Kegel, Günther Herbig, Heinz Rögner, et al. Bongartz was among a number of supremely talented conductors whose careers were made largely in Cold War East Germany and who never achieved the same international recognition that their peers on the other side of the Wall did. Bongartz was particularly illuminating in the late romantic and 20th Century repertoire and his discography merits reappraisal and systematic re-issue on disc.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is some minuscule bumping at corners, as well as slight edgewear and mild discoloration. However, there are no seamsplits or owners' markings and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is similarly EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not always CD silent, in general the playback is superb. If you must have a flawless or near-MINT copy, then you are advised to look elsewhere – overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
