INCREDIBLY RARE David Bowie The Man Who Sold The World 1st PRESSING (1971) UK LP (Mercury 6338 041) with ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC "DRAG" Cover. This is guaranteed authentic. It is extremely rare as only a very small production of these jackets were made before being reissued with a different (less controversial) jacket. Apparently, the jacket depicting a reclining Bowie looking very androgynous (thus the "drag" nickname for the jacket), did not go over well upon the release of this LP in 1971 so was subsequently replaced with a less controversial jacket. These LP's have been counterfeited and later an authorized reissue was manufactured.

This jacket and LP being offered is 100% original. It is NOT a reproduction and is NOT a reissue.

Jacket grade (VG+) Textured original jacket is nice with NO writing, NO seam and spine splitting, NO stickers and NO sticker residue. All spine printing is legible. Edges show moderate rubbing wear. There are two pieces of tape on the front by the mouth where two sections were slightly torn (each about 1 & 1/4"). Bowie's shoes do NOT touch the edge of the jacket by the mouth (as was the case with the cropped cover on the Japanese counterfeit versions of this jacket).
Labels grade (NM+/NM+) Both labels are super clean. Spindle hole looks superb. NO writing and NO marks.
Vinyl grade (NM-/NM-) ULTRA GLOSSY thick vinyl disc is in beautiful condition. Disc looks only very lightly played if at all. NO scratches and NO scuffs.
Disc is NOT WARPED.
Audio grade (NM-/NM-) Audio is splendid on both sides. NO groove wear, NO distortion, NO skips, NO jumps and NO loud pops. Of note, the audio on this first pressing UK disc is by far, the best sounding version of this LP we've ever heard. In our opinion, there is no better.
Notes: The original poly-lined inner sleeve (with the text "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS") is also included.
