Description
The item is a box containing eight 10" Thai 78 rpm records that were made in either the late 1940s or early 1950s. The box is original and bears a photograph of T. Ngek Chuan, the proprietor of the Rabbit Record Company of Bangkok. It once belonged to the Fluxus artist Ken Dewey, who died in 1972; he purchased them in Thailand sometime in the 1960s. These records may have been used in Fluxus performances, and some bear paper slips identifying in a general way the content of the music. I have not removed the slips to avoid damaging the labels. I apologize that I am unable to read or translate the Thai, but according to the slips, the discs bear examples of traditional ceremonial and court music. The records are all in excellent condition by virtue of visual grading. Each disc comes in a sleeve which is beautifully decorated; the cardstock sleeves employed are in very good condition still, but the rice paper sleeves are quite fragile. The successful bidder may wish to replace these with modern, acid-free sleeves and store the originals separately. Note that the box will be shipped inside another box, and that the total package will be about six pounds; international buyers may wish to consider the weight.
On Mar-07-13 at 22:02:29 PST, seller added the following information:I am sorry; my camera is malfunctioning and I cannot post another photo of the box. It is slightly larger than the records, and consists of two halves, one of which is placed over the other; it fits very snugly. I have posted a couple of additional label images showing different styles of sleeves on the discs. I have received a request to list the English slips on the records. They are: Cremation Music (both sides); Chui Chai Classical Dance (both sides); Respect for King/Ceremonial Music -- Marriage -- Cremation; Chiang Mai View/King of Chieng Mai Music (story); Poem About Manan River (both sides); Chiang Mai Music (both sides); Si Nual Classical Dance (both sides); Rice Harvest Song/Another Rice Harvest Song.
