TEST PRESSING - RECORD TWO

One sided test pressing. Just the second one-sided LP of what should be a 2 LP set, containing Dvorak's Slavonic Rhapsody and Scherzo Capriccioso in their entirety.  Comes with the original EMI 'Emitex' poly-lined inner with annotations in one corner that confirm this, and the original front laminated flipback cover, which is stamped inside, "Factory Sample. Not for Sale".

Please don't ask if we have the other record because, unfortunately, we haven't!

The record has been cleaned on a Pro-ject VCS MKII cleaning machine with Pro-ject 'Wash It' cleaner and then placed in a new MFSL anti-static inner.

CONDITION

Examined under a strong halogen lamp, there are very faints sleeve withdrawal marks that are only visible under the lamp, and the smallest surface 'nicks' that disappear when the record is tilted and turned under the lamp beam.  There are no scratches as such, with the worst damage being the aforementioned 'nicks'. A visual grade of Very Good+

When played on a Pro-ject Debut III turntable (recently balanced tone arm and replaced stylus) the first 30 seconds plays with noticeable background crackle and some 'tics' but for the remainder of the side it plays with the occasional very quiet 'tic' and extremely quiet background crackle, but it is very sporadic and is mostly drowned out by the powerful music (and, my goodness, it it powerful!).  However, even in some quiet passages there is incredibly very little surface noise.  A play-grade of Very Good +

Both labels are clean and undamaged apart from spindle trails.

The cover has a hint of ringwear, some discolouration and a small stain on the back, and is very slightly 'bumped' in each corner. There are also marks on the flipback laminate on the back but I think this will clean up well with some effort, ditto the odd very small and light mark on the front. No splits or inscriptions and the spine is really sharp.

GRADING GUIDE - IMPORTANT!

I visually examine all records under a strong 35w halogen lamp, which shows up ALL defects. 

I strictly grade my records according to the Rare Record Price Guide (RRPG) / Record Collector guidelines (with the addition of NM), which, to me, means as follows:

MINT- Must be sealed 
NEAR MINT - Totally unmarked, no scratches, not even faint 'hairlines' / sleeve withdrawal marks or any other signs of having been played. I don't use this grade lightly.  Whatever people say, such unmarked records DO exist but not nearly as many as others would have you believe with their NM grades.
EXCELLENT - No scratches, just signs of having been played, such as the odd faint 'hairline' sleeve withdrawal mark that is barely visible under a strong lamp.
VERY GOOD - The first mild scratches have begun to appear, but only very, very few.
GOOD - More scratches than Very Good and more severe, but I am confident that the record will play through without skips or sticking and will still provide a good listening experience.
FAIR - The record may not play through properly with a chance of it jumping and / or it will play with significant background noise.
POOR - It definitely won't play without skipping or sticking.

Below Near Mint I will use a plus or minus suffix with a grade to highlight fine differences.

COVER GRADES

I try to ensure that my cover grades are EXACTLY as stated in Record Collector magazine / RRPG. Therefore, if a cover is defaced, stained or torn it CANNOT grade better than FAIR. Likewise, if any part of the contents are missing it CANNOT grade better than POOR.  However, if the fault is relatively minor and the rest of the cover is overwhelmingly of a certain grade then I will use this grade.
