Brand New: The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me 2013 Double LP 180g New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me is the critically acclaimed third studio album by American alternative rock band Brand New. Released on November 21, 2006, it marked their major label debut through Interscope Records. It is widely celebrated as a definitive masterpiece of the indie rock, emo, and post-hardcore genres, praised for its complex musical structure and heavy, existential themes. The Vinyl Listening Experience Because of the record's massive, loud/soft dynamic shifts—alternating between fragile, hushed vocals and wall-of-sound guitar explosions—the album is spread across a 2 LP format. This allows the grooves plenty of room to capture the intense depth and bass lines of the production. Standard modern represses are manufactured as 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Music On Vinyl (MOV) Pressing (Best Fidelity): The 2013 European pressings by Music On Vinyl are widely considered the gold standard for this album. Known for their premium audiophile 180g standard, MOV copies offer an incredibly quiet surface sound (very low surface noise/hiss), which is crucial during the album's dead-silent pauses. Tracklist Layout by Vinyl Side
- Side A: Sowing Season (Yeah), Millstone, Jesus Christ
- Side B: Degausser, Limience/Limousine
- Side C: You Won't Know, Welcome to Bangkok, Not the Sun
- Side D: Luca, Untitled, Archers, Handcuffs
- The Leaked Demos: The creation of the album was heavily altered when early, unfinished demo tracks leaked online in early 2006. Instead of polishing those leaks, the band went back to the studio with producer Mike Sapone to write completely fresh, much darker material.
- The Artwork: The haunting cover photograph is titled "Untitled #44" from photographer Nicholas Prior's "Age of Man" collection. It depicts a young girl standing calmly on a porch juxtaposed against two terrifying, masked figures.
- Vinyl Delay: Due to early copyright struggles clearing the rights to use the cover artwork for vinyl packaging, the record wasn't actually pressed onto vinyl until 2010—four years after the initial CD release.
