Description

British North-American Act  1968   LP "In the Beginning..."      on NOW Records         Cat# RSS 6700  STEREO

The British North American Act were a 1960's psychedelic band based out of Montreal, Quebec. The group featured five members from various areas of the world -- Hungary, England and Canada. Their only album, 'In The Beginning' (1968), featured sunshine pop elements of The Association and The Turtles along with more roots oriented songs a la Buffalo Springfield, reaching also into dreamy psychedelic moods with tracks such as the organ-laden "Only A Dream"

Here are two different reviews:

One of many pop-psych LPs from Canada, most of which are only so-so. I kinda like this, there are flashes of real talent and a solid consistency throughout, with the typical London/LA '67 mix, good vocals and excellent use of organ. "Don't run away" is perhaps the best track and has been reissued on Echoes In Time. Neat sleeve design. The LP is surprisingly expensive. [PL]

This album sounds earlier than it is; it's closer to British Invasion pop, or at least mid-60s Paul Revere & The Raiders-type garage rock, than to late-60s rock. The band's name is quite appropriate. It's a nice little pop album, unpretentious but confident, with consistently good songwriting and singing. Some of it is in a fine dreamy folk-rock mode with lots of reverb and echo and a strong backdrop of organ and choral backing vocals. Very nice. [AM]

Questions Always Welcomed!

On 18-Apr-08 at 21:00:09 EDT, seller added the following information:

I have been repeatedly asked if this is a first pressing - I can not be certain.

That catalog number (RSS-6700) matches the orginal, and there is no fine print indicating any other company.
(NOW records was the original issuer) What makes me question it, is the condition - it does not appear to be 40 years old.
Both disc and cover are in PERFECT condition, with no signs of wear, and sound quality is likewise perfect.
The disc itself also lacks fine print, copyright information, etc.

If this is a re-issue, it is not a legitimate one - it is an exact reproduction.
