This 1961 British import stereo LP from Argo Records (ZNF 1), Benjamin Britten: Noye's Fludde (Noah's Flood), is a recording of the performance at the XIVth Aldeburgh Festival, and is one of the oldest records in our collection.
Featured vocalists include Owen Brannigan, Sheila Rex, Trevor Anthony, David Pinto, Caroline Clack, Darien Angadi, Marie-Thérèse Pinto, Stephen Alexander, Eileen O'Donovan, Gillian Saunders, Kathleen Petch, Margaret Hawes and Patricia Garrod.
Musical accompaniment is by The English Chamber Orchestra (Leader: Emanuel Hurwitz). Featured players include Ivor McMahon (Violin), Ralph Downes (Organ), James Blades (Percussion), Stuart Knussen (Double Bass), Martin Penny & Viola Tunnard (Piano Duet), Stanley Taylor (Recorder) and Cecil Aronowitz (Viola). Further accompaniment is by An East Suffolk Children's Orchestra. All are conducted by Norman Del Mar and Assistant Conductor Merlin Channon.
Also included is a landscape-A4 sized 16-page (with sewn binding) illustrated libretto with numerous production photos of the cast, including a rehearsal visit by Benjamin Britten.
The outer album, inner sleeve, libretto and record are in excellent condition. The Clarifoil coating shows some minor wrinkles but no tears or peeling. There is a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back. (See Photo 1)
This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
NOTES:
- Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection.
