Description
Ron Holden / Ron Holden - Donna Records DLP-2111 (Mono) (1960)(US) ...This auction is for a very rare, hard to find original issue Mono Record on U.S. vinyl.
As the story goes, Ron Holden got his break into the music business when, after being arrested on charges of marijuana and alcohol possession, a police officer in the station heard him singing and told Holden to call him after he was released. That police officer was Larry Nelson, who was leaving the force to start his own label, and released Holden's first debut song, "Love You So," in 1960. Ron Holden's "Love You So" is a mesmerizing, metronomic record. Bob Keane of Del-Fi Records purchased the "Love You So" master and released it nationally on his Donna subsidiary in 1960, yielding a Top Ten pop hit (number seven on the Pop Singles chart). Holden's album of the same name contains "Love You So" and its B-side, "My Babe," as well as "Gee, But I'm Lonesome," a follow-up single that just missed Billboard's Top 100. Future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston (with nary a trace of his later surf 'n' sand material) wrote or co-wrote every song on Love You So with the exception of the two sides of Holden's first Donna single. The songs include straight-ahead rockers ("My Babe," "Your Line Is Busy"), pop ballads (the lovely "Let No One Tell You"), and a pair of "Love You So" clones that make use of the same herky-jerky rhythm and minimalist woodblock percussion.
The Record and Cover (no cut-out or promotional markings/no barcode) are in nice (Very Good+ to Very Good++) condition. The glossy front cover is very nice and has only minor surface wear with no seam wear. The back shows some aging coloration but has no writing or other wear. The record vinyl looks and plays well. It still has nice (glossy) shine but does show some wear (but plays through fine and is very enjoyable). Also included will be a high quality resealable plastic outer record sleeve. Auction photo may have a light gray spot(s) on left side of cover. It is a camera lens problem and not on the actual cover. Satisfaction Guaranteed. For payment please use Paypal (other payments are no longer accepted due to eBay’s new policy. If that is a problem, please let them know and contact us to work something out). Payment and Shipping information is listed below. All items are shipped worldwide.
