THIS IS A RARE AND ORIGINAL LISTING FOR

THE MCA BUDDY HOLLY BOXED SET - "THE PORTRAIT SERIES", DATED 1957.

THE TEN (10) 7" RECORDS ARE IN EXTRAORDINARY, NEAR MINT CONDITION.

Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Buddy Holly, was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his untimely death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll." His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably the Beatles, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan and exerted a profound influence on popular music. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Holly number 13 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.

THAT'LL BE THE DAY - THE CRICKETS FIRST SINGLE WAS RELEASED IN THE UK ON SEPTEMBER 9TH 1957. INSPIRATION FOR THE SONG CAME FROM A JOHN WAYNE CATCH PHRASE IN 1956 MOVIE THE SEARCHERS AND THE LYRICS BY BUDDY HOLLY AND JERRY ALLISON RETAINED SOME OF WAYNE'S BRASHNESS. THE SUCCESS OF THAT'LL BE THE DAY CAUSED SOME EMBARASSMENT TO A FEW U.S. RECORD COMPANY EXECUTIVES WHO HAD REJECTED THE TRACK (IN PARTICULAR OWEN BRADLEY, WHO HAD RECORDED A SOLO VERSION WITH BUDDY HOLLY THE PREVIOUS YEAR) AND DECLINED TO RELEASE IT. DESPITE THIS,  THE CRICKETS VERSION QUICKLY REPEATED IT'S U.S. CHART CLIMB REACHING NO. 1 IN THE UK ON NOVEMBER 15, 1957.

THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COVER VERSIONS AND COPIES OF RAVE ON BUT ONLY BUDDY HOLLY MANAGES TO SOUND NATURAL ON THOSE ALL IMPORTANT FIRST SIX SYLLABLES (A CLASSIC "HOLLYISM" OF COURSE).   WHAT FOLLOWS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF HOW TO CRAM A PERFECT ROCK 'N' ROLL RECORD INTO SOMETHING LESS THAN TWO MINUTES OF PLAYING TIME AND STILL GIVE THE LISTENER VALUE FOR MONEY. RAVE ON WAS BUDDY HOLLY'S BIGGEST UK HIT IN HIS LIFETIME REACHING NUMBER 5 IN THE SUMMER OF 1958.

BOTH BROWN EYED HANDSOME MAN AND BO DIDDLEY WERE DEMONSTRATION RECORDINGS MADE IN 1956 WHEN BUDDY HOLLY WAS SIGNED TO DECCA RECORDS IN NASHVILLE.

THIS IS AN UTTERLY FANTASTIC AND RARE BOXED SET FOR ANY COLLECTOR!!

There is no reserve on this auction, so the highest bidder will be the lucky new owner of such a famous and classic BUDDY HOLLY BOXED SET!!

Since photos are such an important part of each auction description, please review and zoom in on all of the pictures provided for full disclosure and let me know if you have any questions prior to bidding.  Please also refer to my explanation of description which is listed at the end of the auction.  The records are in near mint condition...they appear to have never been used!  They remain in the original MCA cardboard sleeve and are all each encased in the original plastic sleeve as well.  The box itself does show much shelf wear and is in fair to good, vintage condition.

Should any item need to be returned for any reason, I will accept the return within 14 days from your receipt of the item and I will reimburse you for the price of the item only....no shipping charges will be refunded for the trip to your home or the trip back to me. The post office is the only one to benefit from the shipping fees. Also, the condition of the returned item will only be acceptable after my thorough inspection.  It must be received in the same condition as was described and pictured in the auction and in its original, unopened box or an opened box with all original materials.

Mint-Perfect condition, right out of the box, like new, item was never used/played with.

Near Mint-Bright color and very crisp, no flaws, item may have been gently used/played with.

Excellent-Nice color and pretty crisp, may have minor flaws.
Very Good-Color may be faded, not very crisp, may have obvious flaws, item was used/played with.

Good-Not crisp, may have been washed, may have major flaws, item was used/played with a lot.

Fair-Less than desirable condition, shows much wear and tear, may be used for parts, etc.
