Description
An original 1st press of VOLUME II on the Coral UK label. Matrix 1B/2B - 1st cut. Stampers 1G/1B-M [which indicates a very early sequence copy]. 'Recording 1st pub dates' - must be present. The LP comes housed in an original '60 cover with exposed fliobacks. An original Decca inner too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Well, what can you say about a record that is 60+ years old and looks and plays like this...It's just incredible..Total time traveller and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of trace/very superficial type marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slightest deviation. Intros and inbetweens are super quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Judging by the quality of the audio - we are close on to those original masters....there is no other explanation. Yes, the preservation is most certainly helping. But it's like Buddy is at the microphone in your sitting room. All the vibrancy and intricate detail only obtainable on a near-master copy with perfect preservation. There's some very high pitch violin in one song - it totally nails it. One track sounds like someone's playing the spoons! Prefect percussion reproduction - and that's usually the first thing to go. And that's all on a 62 year old pressing. I was struggling to detect more than a couple of crackles in a couple of spots per side, and one isolated minor tick. FINAL UPGRADE....with ease. You won't ever witness better...period.
Cover (Ex) Well, again the mind boggles... go take a look at a few other original copies circa 1960...of any Holly record and then come back and take a look at this example. Notice anything? How the hell....! Anyways.. It's here and has just landed through a worm hole for a proper collector to freak out on. It is near perfect and for ANY Lp from '60 that is nothing short of astonishing. No hidden issues. All seams and edges are in lovely condition. REALLY important. The whites you are seeing are REAL whites. No camera trickery - this is proper reproduction of white levels. Don't go thinking you'll ever find another one. The only thing stopping it getting an Ex+ is a tiny spot of grubbiness for one inch on the bottom edge at the opening. Otherwise - it mind warpingly good.
