Description

  • Artist & Title: Buddy Holly & The Crickets ?– The "Chirping" Crickets
  • Label & Cat #: 1957 orig Brunswick ?– BL 54038 mono  *original first pressing
  • Vinyl Grade:  play graded  *vinyl displays numerous faint spindle marks on both sides (although none are feelable on Side 1) and there is some loss of luster. In spite of this Oh Boy,You've Got Love, Maybe Baby, Tell Me How, I'm Looking For Someone To Love and That'll Be The Day can all safely qualify as VG+ play grade; there were a couple minor ticks on Not Fade Away and minimal light background noise on It's Too Late and "Rock Me Baby" (strong VG to low VG+); There is a needle drag mark across all tracks on Side 2 and a short one on Track 4 (see photo); it is deep enough on Tracks 3, 4 & 5 to create ticks, heaviest on Track 4 with a double tick (Good grade only) and Tracks 3 & 5 would grade Good +;  the ticks began midway during Track 3 and then dissipated during Track 5
  • Cover Grade: VG+  *light shelf wear w/solid seams, light crease wrinkle lower rh, a couple small blems on front (top lh one is from writing), some age staining on back ink mark "C"
  • Notes: The debut album by the Crickets and the only one featuring Buddy Holly released during his lifetime, The "Chirping" Crickets contains the group's number one single "That'll Be the Day" and its Top Ten hit "Oh, Boy!." Other Crickets classics include "Not Fade Away," "Maybe Baby," and "I'm Looking for Someone to Love." These five tracks are among the best rock & roll songs of the 1950s or ever, making this one of the most significant album debuts in rock & roll history, ranking with Elvis Presley and Meet the Beatles. GRADING STANDARDS:

(M) Mint: Record and cover appear absolutely perfect in every way.  Grade is seldom used, even with sealed albums where the record itself can only be assumed to be mint.
(NM) Near Mint: Vinyl is shiny with no obvious signs of wear and plays perfectly with no audible imperfections. Cover is close to perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident.
(EX or VG++) Excellent /Very Good ++: Record or jacket has a minimum of audible or visual imperfections. Vinyl has been handled and played very carefully. Light paper scuffs and/or spindle marks may be visible with no appreciable lessening in sound quality. Covers show very minor signs of handling and wear.
(VG+) Very Good Plus: Record displays light scuffs, spindle marks or very light scratches that may create some noise disturbances, but don't affect one's overall listening experience. Jacket begins to show more prominent signs of storage wear and aging.
(VG) Very Good: Defects are more pronounced with visible signs of handling and playing. Surface noise is evident upon playing, especially during soft passages and a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Covers may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached, although none of the flaws should be overwhelming.
(G) Good / (G+)Good Plus: Vinyl will have scratches and visible groove wear. Record plays without skipping, although noticeable surface noise or ticks will be heard. Jackets have even more pronounced defects such as seam splits, tape, writing, ring wear, water damage or other defects.
