These are records that have been in my personal collection for decades. I am slowly selling a lot of records. I clean and listen to all the records prior to listing.
I use this grading system:
Mint (M) – Absolutely perfect in every way. Never been played and usually sealed.
Near Mint (NM) – The record has been on a shelf between other records. The vinyl looks glossy and clearly has only been played a few times.
Excellent (EX) –A few light imperfections on vinyl that do not effect play at all. Cover will have minimal wear like slight corner imperfections, but most are not noticeable.
Very Good Plus (VG+) – A few further faults are like scuffs, surface marks, or light scratches, but nothing that really compromises the record audibly. Cover will have more corner wear, slight corner dings, and creasing on the surface that does not have white peeking through. Slight sticker residue or even a small price tag.
Very Good (VG) – as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise. Cover may have wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. Some more creases might be visible. Seam splitting will be more obvious; it may appear on all three side
I package the records myself in cardboard and do not use cardboard record mailers to save money and I have a ton of cardboard. I insure any record over $25 and that is part of the shipping cost.
