CABARET SHOWTIME SIGN FROM BOSTON/ CABARET AFTER DARK 1974
In 1974 there was a club called Cabaret After Dark at 15 Lansdowne St in Boston. The club was predominantly gay and consisted of a disco (After Dark) in one large room and a showroom called Cabaret. The showroom had some of the "circuit" performers of the time like Michael Greer, Liz Torres, Wayland and Madame and female impersonator shows. I worked lighting and sound in the showroom from March - October 1974 until it closed down. There was no easy way to let the customers dancing in the disco know that the show was about to start in the showroom. They created a sign to alert the customers the show was about to start so as not to interrupt the music with an announcement. The sign measures approximately 46 1/2" x 22" and is plexiglass. The only problem with this sign is that it's broken in pieces. After the club closed all the disco and show equipment was packed onto a truck and taken away. The owners didn't want this sign so I took it home. When I decided to move to Los Angeles in 1975 I could only take so much and certainly not a big sign on the plane. I didn't want to leave it so I broke it into 4 pieces. When I got to LA I intended to get a piece of plexiglass the same size and cement it back together. That never happened and now I want to sell the sign. It does still fit together very nicely. This is most likely the only piece of Cabaret After Dark on Lansdowne Street in Boston that still exists.
