CANNONBALL ADDERLEY - MILES DAVIS - SOMETHIN' ELSE

A truly impressive and highly presentable condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1960's US early press jazz gem, on BLUE NOTE records, MONO, BLP 1595

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  Hand etched BN-LP-1595 A-2  with hand etched "ear" symbol and stamped "RVG

Side 2 Hand etched BN-LP-1595 B  with hand etched "ear" symbol and stamped "RVG" and hand etched "9M"

The overall appearance and condition of this completely flat and beautifully thick vinyl is very good plus (VG+). In normal daylight the vinyl comes across as in near perfect condition, with a jet black sheen and beautiful luster. Close scrutiny under a bright light reveals just a few small, very wispy hairlines and on side 2 there are two 2cm pencil thin scuff marks, the first on track 1 and the second on track 2 (only noticeable when the vinyl is held at the right angle in a bright light - see photos) but even these are non-feelable, totally superficial and do not impinge upon the wonderful audio quality at all. Clearly this vinyl has been underplayed and considering it's 60 year antiquity is in remarkable condition. Very impressive!

The labels are each excellent plus (EX+). All text and the famous Blue Note logo with blue and white writing remains perfectly intact upon the equally impressive light matt textured blue and white backgrounds. Held up in a bright light and just a few very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole come into view on each label. Note the circular ridge on each label, indicative of early pressings. 

The non-laminated (but glossy front side) thick cardboard iconic outer sleeve is in very good plus (VG+) condition. Beautiful thick cardboard with rigid edges with no scuffing on the top edge or spine (where all text remains perfectly intact) and just a single 1cm scuff on the bottom edge adjacent to the bottom left corner. The corners remain nicely defined right angles with minimal rubbing - apart from a more obvious scuff mark at the bottom left corner, and the opening edges remain firm with no fraying. There some light age marks on the reverse and a ring has been drawn the track "SOMETHIN' ELSE" in blue biro; there is also a small sticker with "1" on it and a small horizontal surface gash just to the right of the photo, but all of the text remains nicely intact and perfectly legible and overall the outer sleeve remains in nicely presentable condition. Note the "43 West 61st St., New York 23" address at the bottom of the reverse side of the sleeve, again indicative of an early pressing.

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent (EX). Terrific MONO audio quality with wonderful tone and clarity throughout, even on higher frequencies and at higher volume. No jumps, repeats, sticks, or skips; no clicks and only the merest hint of some occasional very, very light (barely discernible) background crackle on side 2 but this really is negligible and overall the MONO reproduction is crystal clear. Blue Note records of this era were made to last, and they do! It's not hard to see why this very early 1960's Blue Note LP is so highly sought after with these jazz greats on top form - MILES DAVIS, trumpet; CANNONBALL ADDERLEY, also sax; HANK JONES, piano; SAM JONES, bass; ART BLAKEY, drums - and it's hardly surprising that every track makes for a great listen.

Comes complete plain white poly-lined inner sleeve with no tears but there is some age discolouration towards the edges and some creasing on the reverse - remaining fully functional, however. 

In summary an impressive and highly presentable copy of this increasingly rare and sought after US early press Blue Note jazz gem - worthy of gracing any serious jazz vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard crucifix style mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
