Caravan : In The Land Of Grey And Pink 1D / 1D 1st Press Brown / White Deram Label 1971
This first pressing has been so well preserved because whilst it has been played a fair amount the audio quality is superb. There is only minimal intrusion, a small number of light ticks and a couple of light clicks. The vast majority plays with stunning clarity and depth and as always I have played every track in full so as to provide an 'accurate' grading. 'Golf Girl', 'Love To Love You...' and the epic 'Nine Feet Underground' all play with phenomenal audio.
The laminated cover is stunning! I don't think I have ever seen a more 'complete' one as it has barely any wear and certainly nothing obvious. Slight compression of the spine but it is unbelievably clean and for once the non-laminated inside is so close to perfect. The original poly-lined inner (dated 6-71) is in excellent condition also.
Only the first pressings have the brown / white Deram labels.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and looks very clean under 'normal' lighting. When you look under a bright light you can see a fair number of faint hairlines but they are superficial as they have no affect on the audio. There is also one faint scuff line on S2 but again it has no impact. There is no groove or surface wear. The Decca labels are very clean but there is quite a lot of spindle wear mainly around the centre ring.
Play Grading
The intro on 'Golf Girl' plays with great clarity and depth and the opening two verses play to perfection. A couple of very quiet statics that is all. The chorus is just as strong and clear and the mid instrumental has no intrusion either. So far so good the audio is stunning! A key change with the final verse / chorus and again there is no background. The closing instrumental and long fade out play with superb clarity and definition and this Canterbury classic has to grade as Mint- at the very least - even then including the minus could be deemed a little harsh!
The intro and opening vocal on 'Winter Wine' play very clearly with only the bare minimum of light static, nothing intrusive. As the drums come in the audio is flawless and it continues in the same precise way. There are no ticks, clicks or pops and the next quieter vocal passage plays with sublime clarity, just a small number of very light statics towards the end. The following instrumental plays with stunning audio as does the final vocal section. There is just a little light static on the final fade out note so I will grade it as Near Mint overall.
The intro on 'Love To Love You...' is faultless and the first verse / chorus section play with sublime clarity and depth. The instrumental bridge has no background and the next verse / chorus is as perfect as the first. It continues in the same way and the only background is some static at the end of the fade out. A superb track and so typical of their sound. Mint-
The intro and opening vocal on 'In The Land Of Grey And Pink' play very clearly but with some intermittent light ticks. However, they are by no means loud and the second verse has no intrusion at all. The instrumental break is superb apart from one light click sound and the final vocal section / instrumental has no background. The vast majority here plays without fault but because of the background mentioned albeit minimal I will grade as Ex+ overall.

'Nine Feet Underground' is of course made up of various sections and the first one 'Nigel Blows A Tune' is close to perfect with just one light tick / click. The warmth and depth of audio is high end indeed. Near Mint-
'Love's A Friend' goes one better and plays without fault and Hastings' vocal could not be any cleaner. Mint
'Make It '76' also plays with exceptional clarity and there is literally no intrusion. Mint
The quieter 'Dance Of The Seven Paper Hankies' is close to that grade but I did detect just a hint of very quiet static every now and then but it is certainly not intrusive. I repeat it is very very quiet! Near Mint-
'Hold Grandad By The Nose' plays with deep, impeccably clean powerful audio and Mint is deserved.
'Honest I Did' is very similar with only one minor static which is hardly worth a mention really. Mint-
The next section 'Disassociation' provides the second vocal and this time Richard Sinclair takes the reigns. From start to finish it plays with such clear audio and I only heard a handful of super quiet statics, there are no ticks, clicks etc. Mint-
The final piece '100% Proof' ends this opus with great power and depth and there is barely any inner groove distortion - perhaps just a minimal amount towards the end. The clarity of sound is very impressive and there is nothing to detract from the overall sound. There is definitely no interference. The audio is deep and powerful and the 'loud' closing section is superb. I'll say Near Mint but it's bordering on Mint- truth be told.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The laminated cover is quite possibly the finest example I have ever seen. The edges are perfect and the spine is unmarked with only the usual crease / compression line running down the centre. Good news though it has only been compressed a little. The corners are super clean and only the second opening edge has a small amount of handling wear. The first (on the front cover) is pristine. The front cover itself is in lovely condition and has only a few of the usual small edge creases next to the spine. The colouring is still strong and vibrant. The back cover is stunning and the inside of the gatefold has to be the cleanest I have ever found. It is so often marked because it isn't laminated but it remains very 'white' with only a couple of very small faint spots. A fantastic example overall and deserving of a Near Mint- grade in my opinion.
The original poly-lined Stereo inner (dated 6-71) is in excellent order with no splits or tears and only a little creasing. It just has some of the glue residue showing through around the edges from underneath, a very common feature.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
