“There is nothing in the world that is more satisfying or that gives greater pleasure than to hear a young singer whose artistry and  personal appeal is truly fresh, and who also has the “soul” of the older, more experienced professional.  Carla Thomas is the most impressive example of such a singer to come along in quite a while.

Carla Thomas was born December 21, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee.  At the age of eight, she was already a “professional” musician; she began singing with a talented teen-age group that performed on a local radio show.  She sang on radio up until she graduated from high school.  Her dad was (and still is) a popular disc jockey and musician, well known in the Memphis area and the entire South.  He often took Carla along on trips with him outside Memphis, and so she got the taste for showbusiness at a very early age.

This past year Carla entered Tennessee A & I University in Memphis, but without giving up her singing or her ambitions for a career in the entertainment world.  It was during that freshman year that Carla’s father stopped by a recording company in Memphis one day and asked the owner, Jim Stewart, to listen to a recent tape that Carla had made.  It was Gee Whiz, Look At His Eyes, which Carla had written herself.  Stewart sensed immediately that what he was listening to was both a potentially big hit – and a big new star!

Stewart brought Carla’s tape to the attention of Atlantic Records, whose analysis of it was the same as Stewart’s.  They felt, too, that his was bound to be a smash, and signed Carla to a long-term contract.  Gee Whiz did go to the top of the national popularity charts and brought Carla many bids for TV, radio and personal appearances, including the Dick Clark “American Bandstand” show.  Carla says her greatest and most enjoyable experience was being put on the same bill at the Brooklyn Paramount with Jackie Wilson and Johnny Mathis.

Carla is quiet in nature; typical of the average teen-ager, she likes to play the piano, make music and dance.  Her gift for writing music is clear from a glance at the box of credits on this album liner.  Besides Gee Whiz, she also wrote A Love Of My Own, It Ain’t Me and For You.  With the exception of Gee Whiz, A Love Of My Own, Promises  and For You, none of the material in this LP has been released before.

After listening to this album you will have met an important new singer who offers a new approach and a fresh interpretation of the new and old songs we enjoy so much.  Gee Whiz!”

The LP is in Very Good Condition with just a few surface marks and surface scratches.  It plays Well

The Sleeve is in Very Good Condition with just a tiny bit of scuffing and laminate creasing, and on the back there must have been a small label stuck there at one time
