CARPENTERS - Offering. A&M Records (USA) SP 4205. CONDITION: VG++/VG++. Sleeve still has 70% of shrinkwrap; very attractive overall, with the only flaw being a bit of surface wear visible on Richard's leg. Disc looks close to new -- the only visible wear I noticed was two light hairline marks on side two. Plays with a minimum of surface noise; I can't say it sounds 100% perfect, but as long as you can ignore an occasional quiet tick, you'll be happy. (NOTE: I'm a very conservative grader; if you look closely at my feedback, you'll find a lot of "better than expected" comments.) ABOUT THE RECORD: 1969, debut lp by The Carpenters; it was deleted and repackaged (as "Ticket To Ride") very soon after release, so this version is quite scarce. Mostly originals credited to Richard, with covers of "Ticket To Ride", "Get Together" and an obscure Buffalo Springfield tune. At least half of the vocals are by Richard, and a fair amount of the material is more pop-psych than their later records -- protest lyrics and all.
