Here's a fun fact for you: having played on over 2,220 sessions, Ron Carter holds the record for the most-recorded jazz bassist in history. He's now 89 years old but as this new album shows, his playing has lost none of its sparkle, as he teams up with acclaimed guitarist Yotam Silberstein on a set that pays homage to Carter's legendary duets with the late Jim Hall. Featuring six jazz standards plus two original compositions, the album's most notable, perhaps, for being an entirely percussion-free affair - but trust us, you won't miss the drums, because Carter's double bass propels the whole thing along nicely on its own, thank you very much! That there's virtuoso musicianship on display goes without saying; perhaps more importantly for casual buyers, you can also rest assured that things never get even remotely noodlesome or self-indulgent, making for an album that's likely to become a late-night fave for some time to come.
