CAT STEVENS
' TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN '
1970
ISLAND RECORDS ILPS 9135
Early issue with the Pink ' I ' label - a really early copy from late 1970 . Matrix 3u / 3u. Stampers 1T/1T.
A truly essential album from Cat Stevens on Island records . Only very early pressings were issued with these pink labels which were soon changed to the palm tree logo shortly after this lp was released. A very difficult album to find as a genuine first pressing. It's rightly regarded as a masterpiece and is included in the 500 greatest albums of all time.
The album features tracks such as 'Where Do The Children Play?' , 'Wild World' and 'Father And Son'. These are the better known ones but every track is outstanding and the album sounds fabulous even 46 years later.
This is a very nice copy.
The vinyl, irrespective of it's age (46 years), remains in great condition. While it has clearly been played it shows none of the normal signs of heavy use. A close visual inspection does reveal some light handling marks and some whispy lines and light rubs but there is absolutely nothing that can be felt with the fingertip. There is a little light crackle in places , mainly during the intros , and the occasional soft pop can be heard. The audio overall has great clarity and quality, a lovely rich full stereo sound. This copy gives very good + to excellent standard of playback. Of course there are no skips or repeats. The pink labels are unspoilt and show a moderate amount of spindle lines with no writing or tears. As stated above the matrix numbers are etched in the dead wax with STERLING stamped on each side.
The front & back laminated EJ Day cover is a great example of one that is hard to find in decent condition. A first issue that has survived extremely well. There is a solitary laminate wrinkle to the front and a tiny bubble in one of the corners. The back also has a couple of small laminate bubbles in the corners. The edges and the spine are fully intact. The soft textured inner gatefold is in lovely undamaged condition . There is a crease near the centre , very common with these thick , wide spine gatefolds. A great example of this rare cover, in excellent condition. The original plain white inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no splits.
So a nice copy of an increasingly rare LP that should please the next owner. UK and Overseas postage is available by signed for delivery only. Proper box mailers are used to ensure that the item reaches you intact. Full refund in the event of buyer dissatisfaction.
