CATCH A FIRE
The Wailers
(Bob Marley & The Wailers)
Original, quite rare 1973 Jamaican Tuff Gong Release
Catch a Fire is The Wailers' fifth studio album, released in April 1973. It was their first album released worldwide by Island Records and in the Caribbean on the Wailers' own label, Tuff Gong. After finishing a UK tour with Johnny Nash, they had started laying down tracks another label, but this was interrupted by a contractual dispute. The band did not have enough money to return to Jamaica, so their road manager Brent Clarke approached producer Chris Blackwell of Island Records, who agreed to advance The Wailers money for an album. They instead used this money to pay their fares back home, where they completed the recordings that make up Catch a Fire.
The album had a limited original release by Island under the name The Wailers in a sleeve depicting a Zippo lighter, but this proved too fragile so it was replaced by a new sleeve. The Zippo sleeve was not used for the Tuff Gong disks. The album has received critical acclaim, including being listed at number 126 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
This record is in Very Good (VG) condition, with some surface noise that does not interfere with the music. The sleeve and inner sleeve are in Very Good Plus (VG+) condition.
