CATHY WAYNE rare VO5 hair ad/1960s Aust. singer/Vietnam
Description:
Ultra rare recording of Cathy Wayne doing a jingle for VO5, recorded around the mid 60s.
Cathy was an Australian a singer and dancer, active in the years 1965 -69. She was a dancer on Channel 9's show "Oppurtunity Knocks".At the age of 16 she won a talent contest an was offered a regular role on television variety show,Bandstand, along side Col Joye and Little Pattie. Wayne signed with Joye's agency ATA and was managed by his sister Carole Jacobsen.
While on tour to Vietnam in July 1969 performing in front of 75 US Marines she was tradgically shot dead by US Marine Sergeant James Wayne Killen,just after finishing performance. It was alleged Killen was aiming for his commanding officer but struck poor Cathy instead,killing her instantly.She was the first Australian woman to be killed during the Vietnam War. There is no known recordings done by Cathy Wayne which makes this flexi advert very rare indeed.According to Wikipedia she did advertising jingles and uncharted singles.She would have been 16 when she did this jingle.
The ad is advertising V05 hair product. There is a slight echo on Cathy's voice. She is backed by female backing group. Instrumentation: organ,guitar,trombone,trumpets,tambourine,bass,drums.
The one-sided flexi single has alot of of surface scratches, but is in surprisingly good playing order.Has minimal surface noise, the odd pop-&-crackle. The recording is loud.
