CHANTS FOR PEACE: An Original Folk / Rock Service (private press)
- Condition : Cover is VG++, some storage wear mainly on back. Vinyl is NM, looks pretty much as new but both the recording and pressing are somewhat lo-fi.
- Description : Very rare 1970 private pressing of a Jewish service from Beth Sholom U.S.Y. in Elkins Park, PA. Back cover describes it thusly: "An original folk/rock service based on the traditional weekday Ma-Ariv (Evening) service". I was raised Roman Catholic in the '70s so folk masses, hip bearded priests and the like are comfortably familiar but this LP from a synagogue in the north Philly suburbs is something else entirely! I've provided a bunch of lengthy samples below so you can get a grip on what's happening here. Basically we have spoken prayers and readings (mostly in English) mixed with music, which consists of rather wonderful breezy garage-rock farfisa-led teen combo backing with either chorus vocals or a cantor singing, mostly in Hebrew. The LP is not banded so I had a hard time matching up the track titles with what I was hearing. The track "Aleinu" is astonishing, full-blown psychedelia with about a minute of fuzz soloing. There were at least five of these LP's issued during the era- essentially the Jewish equivalent of all those private Christian LP's based on the Electric Prunes' "Mass In F Minor"- but this is the rarest and best one I've heard thus far. Note the Farfisa in the cover pic and the blurb with a reference to Lennon's "Give Peace A Chance". No references to this LP online anywhere that I can find, it must have been a small pressing...

NOTE: shipping to Mexico is the same cost as to Canada, and shipping to South America is the same cost as to Europe, generally. Ebay's lsting format does not let me break out South America separately from Mexico and Canada for shipping costs so it appears as though I don't ship there, but I do. I ship WORLDWIDE.
- GUARANTEE: Condition of this item is guraranteed to be as stated in the above description. Grading is strict and visual. All used LP's are cleaned on a Loricraft machine before grading. Sorry, I do not guarantee "musical content". If you are going to bid high on an unfamiliar album, consider first checking out the sounds online or via a reissue, etc in order to avoid potential disappointments. You cannot return a record simply because you don't like the music.
- Records are shipped in a cardboard record mailer with sufficient padding, and the disc is removed from the jacket to prevent seamsplits.
- I do not end auctions early. No offense, but if you ask, you will not receive a reply, sorry.
- Please do not ask me to email you with a list of every song on an LP. If you are looking for a specific song, inquire with the name of the song, I'll check ASAP to see if it's on the LP and reply promptly, but I don't have time to type out the names of every track, sorry to say. Also, sorry but requests from underbidders along the lines of "I didn't win, could you A) dub the record to CD for me B) ask the high bidder to dub the record to CD for me or C) give me the winner's email so I can ask" are ignored due to legal and privacy concerns.

- ALL US shipments are sent with delivery confirmation included in the shipping cost. I will insure any package sent within the USA worth over $100 for no extra cost. OVERSEAS: the cheaper shipping option on your invoice (First Class Mail International) does not include insurance or tracking. With FCMI service, Registered Mail (includes tracking number and requires your signature upon delivery) is available for $10.80 extra per parcel; if you want Registered Mail added to your FCMI parcel, ask. The higher price option on your invoice (Priority Mail International) includes a tracking number and, to most countries, around $80 in insurance coverage, as part of the shipping cost. However, Registered Mail service is not available with Priority Mail International service.
