Description

PARAMOUNT 12877 'PEA VINE BLUES' (MATRIX 1617) 'TOM RUSHEN BLUES’ (MATRIX 1618).

Forget the usual ebay hype - this really is a rare and collectable record by the king of the delta blues, Charley Patton. This is undoubtedly the rarest record from his first session in June 1929 ('78 quarterly' estimate less than ten surviving copies) and the performances are outstanding. That’s the good news. Sadly, this record is not in the best of condition, graded at Fair (F) (V.J.M/JOSLIN STANDARDS) at best. There is also a 3" daylight crack and the labels are worn and would grade them at about V- (see photograph). but the record plays through fine and Charley can be heard above the din and without any skips or jumps - so, this record is too good to be a wall-hanger, but rough enough to obtain without parting with a fortune.

I have 30 years experience of grading and packing 78's and I realise that this record will need expert packing so please bid confidently.
