  • On The Road To Mandalay

For auction is a 12" 78 rpm radio transcription disc of "Excerpts From A Typical Perfect Circle Radio Program".  The recordings begin with an introduction of the Charles Davis Orchestra, a full 3 minute song by the band and a short commercial for the Perfect Circle Piston Ring Company of Hagarstown Indiana.  Charles Davis was a bandleader who started in Indianapolis in 1923 and toured into the 30's.  He is credited for composing the Wolverines tune "Copenhagen".  His vocalist was Dick Powell, though I can't confirm his presence as the vocalist on the one vocal tune on this disc.  The only identification as to the pressing company of this disc is the number "20353" on the label, although the associations with Indiana and the appearance of the label might indicate a Gennett connection.  A very scarce recording of a great Jazz / Dance band.

Record has some light scuffing and very few light surface scratches.  Record does have one noticeable "POP" in the spoken commercial part of the second side.  The musical passages play very clear and clean.  Record looks and plays E-.  Labels are clean and unmarked.
