CHARLIE HARDMAN - Untitled (no lable private press) (probably late 60s - early 70s)
Here's an unusual item indeed. Recorded on a shoestring budget...(and it sounds like it). At first listen, it sounds like something Ward Clever ...of "Leave it to Beaver" fame might have recorded as an on going project...late nights after everybody were asleep. A closer listen would reveal...Ward was surely smoking something other than tobacco in that pipe of his. Backed by acoustic guitar, or piano..the album is quite "haunting & lonely" sounding. The "Clever" family would have been very suspicious after hearing the lyrics to... "Child of the Earth and the Sun"...which points out that the SUN is his father, the EARTH his Mother, and the MOON is his nurse. Other tracks include titles like..."Songs of Space & Deep Space", "Lonelyville", "The Story of man", "Strange Madness"...(with it's strange sadness..I hope it never lets me go), "Got to Go", "A Drifters Song", and others. Those who collect Loner Folk, Real People oddity Lps, or just very strange obscurities are going to get off hard on this one.
This is housed in a thick plain cardboard jacket with the name CHARLIE HARDMAN hand printed on the front of the jacket. The plain private lable has his name misspelled as CHARLE HARDMAN.
The record looks unplayed with the only signs of wear being some paper sleeve type hairlines. Grades VG++ to EX. The music is very quiet, and you can hear the poor quality pressing type background noise. The jacket has distorted upper right corner(please see photo)..and is otherwise VG+.
Very likely a one-of-a-kind item here.
