This VERY rare (limited, numbered editon) 6-LP set contains ALL of the legendary sessions that Bird recorded for Dial records, and includes every single track, cut and take - finished and unfinished - from his brilliant output for label (12 sessions in all) spread over two years. One of the great takes is the famous "alto break" from Night In Tunisia. In an otherwise mediocre take, Bird just lights up and plays this awesome cadenza that blew everybody away. It is a truly hypnotic, mesmerizing experience hearing a true genius like Charlie Parker (in the studio with other fellow geniuses) hone his art, and this material - at least in this, complete, unabridged form - to my best knowledge isn’t available anywhere else.

Personnel: Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Howard McGhee, Errol Garner, Red Callender, Barney Kessel, Max Roach, JJ Johnson, and many more.

Released in the late 70’s, there were only 4000 of these pressed, and only 1200 of them were released in the US, and each one is hand-numbered. This one is number 0203 out of 4000.

Each of the 6 poly-lined inner sleeves features a different portrait of Bird, specially commissioned for this recording and never used anywhere else.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The records come in their original, custom, poly-lined, inner sleeves, which are UNIQUE to this album. Note that all six inner sleeves have small water stain in one corner, apparently from the water that penetrated the outer box.

(c)             The records are pressed on a RELATIVELY thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type), vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)            In addition, the records are pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(e)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has a wrinkle in canvas slick on the back cover (does not affect the cardboard base)

-         Cover has three corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No split seams (yet)

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-         No writing

-         No stamps

-         No peel-off marks

-         No stains

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.

-         No warping

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.
