RECORD CONDITION:BOTH SIDES ARE VG++. VERY MINOR SCUFFS THAT DO NOT AFFECT PLAYBACK OR SOUND. EXCELLENT APPEARANCE. LIKE NEW LABELS. THIS WOULD BE OTHER DEALERS NM OR NM-, BUT I AM VERY CAREFUL ABOUT MY GRADING. PLAY GRADED AND LISTED CONSERVATIVELY. RECORD CLEANED ON 16.5 VPI MACHINE. COVER IS ALSO VG++.  EXCELLENT CONDITION. ALL CORNERS, GATEFOLD HINGE AND SEAMS INTACT. BEAUTIFUL LAMINATED COVER PHOTO.  

I AM VERY CAREFUL ABOUT MY GRADING. PLAY GRADED AND LISTED CONSERVATIVELY. RECORD CLEANED USING A 16.5 VPI MACHINE.

ITEM INFORMATION: Though this tough-to-find Italian-pressed LP is not the original  release of the session, I believe it is earlier than the more available Italian RCA VIK LP and is in great shape. Recorded in Rome, January, 1962. Tremendous stereo sound. I am very confident that tube recorders were still being used in Rome in 1962 and the “alive” feel of the sound shows through all the cuts. A four star LP by All Music Jazz. Their two reviews states, “Recorded in Italy in 1962, the album showcases the "cool" trumpeter cutting loose on such bop-oriented workouts as ‘Pent-Up House’ and ‘Well, You Needn't.’ Backed skillfully by a young cadre of up-and-coming European musicians, including the stellar saxophonist Bobby Jaspar, Chet Baker may have never sounded better, including on the ballads. One listen to ‘Over the Rainbow’ and it's clear this is an overlooked Baker classic. The album features Baker at his finest, and is an excellent introduction to the musician's non-vocal work. The material is all standard jazz repertoire, played in a no-frills format, without specific arrangements or endings. It is the musicianship here that is the main attraction. Baker has rarely sounded better; his technique is in top shape, and his solos are textbook examples of lyrical bop playing. Baker, as was not always the case throughout his career, surrounds himself with strong and supportive sidemen. Guitarist Rene Thomas, under recorded throughout his career, becomes one of the highlights of the session, and makes the album a must-have for bop guitar enthusiasts. Tune selection is surprisingly upbeat for a Baker recording.”

A great jazz LP and a worthy addition to a quality record collection.

GRADING: Sealed LP’s are noted in their description. I grade by both visual inspection and play. Mint is not used. Near Mint is my highest grade and should play problem free; VG++ should play problem free or with noted shortcomings noted in write-up.  VG+ is listed with any shortcomings noted in write-up. My description will be accurate. All items guaranteed, but I do not refund shipping costs.
