Here's a chance to grab the Holy Grail of power pop !! This is a very nice copy of Chris Bell’s 1978 single issued in only 1000 copies on Chris Stamey’s tiny CAR label. Remixed by The Beatles’ engineer Geoff Emerick.
Possibly the best single ever released was issued just 6 months prior to Bells passing, and the A side here is the only way to enjoy I AM THE COSMOS as it was remastered especially at Ardent Studios, Memphis for the then upcoming CAR single. The versions presented on the RykoDisc CD are a bit compressed and weird/sounding (No-Noised™ ? ), and the original single is the only way to really enjoy these astounding songs.
Alex Chilton provides harmony backup vocals on YOU AND YOUR SISTER, and in 1974 Chris Bell insisted that Geoff Emerick remix the A side for possible release whilst trying to get his work issued in the UK. Emerick still had to struggle with Bells battered mastertape of I AM THE COSMOS, and so the infamous dropout is still audible on the original single.
ITEM CONDITION : The vinyl is pretty close to NM, but I would have to settle with a grading of EX as there is 2 tiny patches of scuffs on both sides. This does not affect play quality. Both sides of the label also seems to have suffered a very small amount of yellowing.
The sleeve is in EX condition as it has been some creasing – the picture in the auction is an accurate representation. Please note Tthere are no seam/splits, but some ring-wear is faintly visible on both sides. All in all this is still a very nice copy.
