CHRIS McGREGOR`S BROTHERHOOD OF BREATH  ORIGINAL 1971 UK 1st PRESSING  RCA NEON NE2
The record has been in storage for many years so the gatefold cover shows signs of shelf wear. I have tried to accentuate that in the pictures, but it is still in very good condition with a solid spine and original black inner sleeve. The vinyl is in excellent condition with no scratches, skips, jumps or warps. There is the odd light click which can be heard in the quieter places but still retains the original clarity and warmth of the analogue sound.

This album fuses the influence of African music, jazz-rock, and free improvisation, Chris McGregor’s Brotherhood of Breath is considered a legendary album amongst collectors of British jazz and fusion. Chris McGregor led the group on piano and African xylophone with Malcolm Griffiths and Nick Evans on trombones, Mongezi Feza on pocket trumpet and Indian flute, Mark Charig on cornet, Harry Beckett on trumpet, and Dudu Pukwana on alto saxophone. Ronnie Beer on tenor saxophone, vies with Alan Skidmore’s tenor and soprano saxophone, with ‘70s U.K. jazzman Mike Osborne on alto saxophone and clarinet and John Surman on baritone and soprano saxophone. Brotherhood of Breath created one of the defining recordings of ethno-jazz with this album. The use of African-inspired melodies, culminates in an ecstatic high on “Night Poem,” the album’s 20-minute standout track. The album is driven by the rhythm section -- bassist Harry Miller and drummer Louis Moholo, names familiar to fans of British free jazz.
