Description
Christmas: same 1970, Canada/Paragon #18. Disc has some light hairlines, it looks like it would play M- but I heard a few faint ticks in the middle of side one, still it deserves an EX grade. The glossy white cover is clean and bright, it was in the shrink wrap for many years which was fastened inside the pocket with tape. This left a stain inside the pocket where the record slides in (it's not sticky) but nicely preserved the outside as you can see in the photos. Overall, I think it deserves an EX grade. The back side has a sentence written right along the pocket opening in ballpoint pen reading "RECORDED IN MARCH, 1970 RELEASED ON JULY 9, 1970". This seemed like information that a casual fan would not have access to, and sure enough, an email from Bob Bryden just moments ago confirmed that this was positively once his personal copy, and that he indeed wrote the recording and release dates on the back cover! The Paragon album seems to be the "black sheep" in the Christmas canon with its loose, improvised feel (especially on side two). Judging by their later work, Bob Bryden's songs were always carefully arranged and the band sounds so well-rehearsed that they could probably play them in the dark. But this LP is a different animal... a snapshot of the temporary bridge between what was Reign Ghost, and the re-aligned, infinitely more serious band that recorded "Heritage". It seems incredible that the band released three distinctly different LPs during 1970 and went through so much evolution in just over a year's time. Nothing much else to say here, this one is impossibly rare, might be the rarest Canadian LP of all... Merry Christmas!
