This late 1958 release was an opportunity for Chuck Berry fans to get a copy of his most famous 1950s hit in the US and UK singles charts "Sweet Little Sixteen" with an attractive sleeve. The song was written by Chuck and was later covered by many rock ‘n rollers including Jerrry Lee Lewis in 1962 and the Beach Boys in 1963. This original was recorded at 2120 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago in January 1958, where most of the Chess sessions were held from late 1957 until 1966. Chuck Berry is on vocals/guitar & supported by his “Combo”: Lafayette Leake - piano, Willie Dixon - double bass, & Fred Below - drums. This EP did not sell particularly well in UK at first so comparatively few copies were made until the early ‘60s, when the original tri-centres had been replaced by circular ones. So this tri-centre edition is arguably the most collectable of Chuck Berry’s UK-issued EP records.
