Clarence "Frogman" Henry is a New Orleans legend who has left the rock-and-roll world with some memorable songs.
Clarence was born in Algiers, Louisiana in 1937. As a child he studied piano and the trombone, instruments that he became somewhat accomplished in playing and which he is still playing to this day. He joined Bobby Mitchell's R&B band in 1953 and stayed with them for about two years before going on to other bands in the New Orleans area. He tried his hand at songwriting and recording also.
In late 1956 a song that Clarence had written helped him to become somewhat of an overnight sensation. That song was Ain't Got No Home. The song was leased to Argo Records in Chicago, with Clarence singing in a falsetto voice when he says he can "sing like a girl" and in a contrived, humorous voice when he says he can "sing like a frog." It was a fun novelty hit that vaulted to the number 3 position on the R&B charts and to number 20 on the pop charts. It also served to give the nineteen-year-old a nickname that would stick with him for life, "Frogman." The flip side of Ain't Got No Home was also very good. Titled Troubles, Troubles, it was an uptempo song on which Clarence shared writing credits with bandleader Paul Gayten.
Clarence Henry continued to perform around New Orleans in the late Fifties and early Sixties before he came up with his next big hit. Once again on the Argo label, he had two more records reach the Top Twenty, But I Do [also known as I Don't Know Why] and You Always Hurt The One You Love. The latter had been a number one hit for the Mills Brothers in 1944. These records were produced by Gayten and legendary New Orleans record producer Allen Toussaint. There were other minor hits also, such as On Bended Knees/Standing In The Need Of Love and Lonely Street. He switched to the Parrot label and just missed with a record titled Have You Ever Been Lonely.
Clarence Henry has been active on the music scene in New Orleans for many years since his fling with the charts. He performs in clubs and he is well known and well liked in his native city. His home was damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but he was not injured.

· CONDITION:
· THE RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(c) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.
(e) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· THE COVER
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 (front side) and 4 (back side)
- Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging (nothing significant)
- Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the front panel
- Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine
- Cover has a partially split top seam (between 4 and 6 inches / 10 to 15 centimeters); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape
- Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 1 and 2 inches / 2.5 to 5 centimeters); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape
- Visible shelf wear noted on the seams
NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER
