Scarce vintage jazz LP featuring CLIFFORD BROWN and MAX ROACH on the EmArcy label, from 1955.  Title is “Study in Brown.”  Catalog number is MG 36037.  

Record is thick vinyl with deep groove.  Label is blue with silver print, has a narrow silver band around edge of label.   Jacket has blue print on reverse.

Personnel consist of the following:  CLIFFORD BROWN – trumpet; HAROLD LAND – tenor sax; RICHIE POWELL – piano; GEORGE MORROW – bass; and MAX ROACH – drums.   

Jacket is in overall very nice condition, seams show some wear and paper shows some browning due to age, especially evident on reverse near the edges.   No splits, only writing is “3.98” in small, neat pencil on reverse at upper right.  A very presentable jacket.

The album has obviously been played only a very small number of times.  Fidelity is excellent.

Condition of Side B is excellent, with only a couple slight hairlines (not audible) and no serious problems.  Retains full original gloss, label is clean and free of any lines around the spindle hole. 

Side A has a couple minor problems.  First, there is a slight cloudiness to the surface, characteristic of many early Mercury and EmArcy pressings.  Second, there are several places where there are a smattering of slight dots or light surface abrasions.  These produce a few places where there is slight surface noise, however they are tics (no clicks or pops), and do not rise to the level of being distracting.  The entire side is enjoyable listening, and I would emphasize that it is only a small number of places where the soft tics are evident at all.  Again, the fidelity is excellent and the music is enjoyable throughout.
