RECORD HISTORY: Recorded live in 1959 in a Greenwich Village coffee house, this is the authentic BEATNIK experience including poetry with guitar accompaniment: WORD JAZZ; and very early FOLK SINGERS, lots of FOLK SINGING! This set captures the very beginning moments of the GREENWICH VILLAGE FOLK MUSIC REVIVAL! Plus, this is the DEBUT RECORDING of a young and tender JUDY HENSKE! The record opens with self-described WORD JAZZ, as liner notes state: "FRANK HALL's impromptu "BEAT NICK" introduces the coffee house world!" What follows is a festive night of FOLK SINGING HOOTENANNY STYLE! Singers appear solo, duo and various sized ensembles. JUDY HENSKE [who accompanies herself on banjo] offers 4 songs: "Iskadara Dodi 'Li" and "Bimini" [both solo]; plus "Lonesome Traveler" [folk duo] and "So Long" [folk trio]! "So Long" is the WOODY GUTHRIE classic "So Long, It's Been Good To Know You". The other performers here offer hearty and enthusiastic FOLK singing! This record is as close as you'll ever get to sitting in a NEW YORK CITY GREENWICH VILLAGE coffee house, wearing a black beret and sipping espresso; while watching a whole new musical world magically appear before your eyes!
