BILLY JOEL
COLD SPRING HARBOR - ORIGINAL

After knocking around in a soulish group called The Hassles, then a heavy metal-ish Attila, Billy Joel checked himself into Meadowbrook hospital for acute depression. He emerged ready to start anew, with a different style and approach to music.

He signed a deal with Family Productions and set about working on his first solo material.  In November of '71 the finished tapes of this album were sent off to the pressing plant. When the boxes containing thousands of new Lps arrived Joel was horrified to find that the pressing plant had pressed the record at the WRONG SPEED!

On each and every album Billy Joel is singing in a higher register, like he's either an elf or is performing in a studio filled with helium. A massive embarrassment, Billy Joel never really promoted the album or tours behind it. Though receiving good reviews, it sells very poorly.

Billy heads to Los Angeles to work for the next year in a piano bar under the name Bill Martin. He begins working on his next body of songs that will emerge as the Piano Man album.

NOTE- Due to the big demand for this record among collectors, it was bootlegged in the mid '70s. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE BOOTS. It's easy to see too, since it's got a crisp jacket, not the blurry one the boot's got. Then, the Lp was re-released for a while in '84, and they corrected the speed problem. If you don't have a copy on the Family Productions original label, you don't have the fast one. But then one listen would tell you that.
