Colosseum : Daughter Of Time 1Y3 / 2Y1 2nd press 1971 Vertigo

This second pressing plays with stunning quality with barely any intrusion on the audio.  Only 'Bring Out Your Dead' on S2 has a little static for 4/5 seconds.  The clarity, depth and resonance of the audio on both sides is so impressive and it is clear the vinyl has not been played very much.  It is so clean and has hardly any spindle wear.

The gatefold is in excellent condition with only light wear and the Vertigo inner is in very good order.

This second pressing has a small Vertigo swirl logo on the labels and a 1Y3 / 2Y1 matrix.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a small number of faint hairlines and a small section of minor mottling on S2, it has no affect on the audio.  It's very faint and I only mention it to be 100% complete with my description.  The Vertigo labels are in superb shape with no marking and hardly any spindle wear.

Play grading

The intro on 'Three Score And Ten, Amen' is near perfect with just one minor static and Farlowe's first verse / chorus have no background at all.  From then on it plays with stunning clarity, depth and power and the quieter spoken section towards the end has only a couple of light statics.  The final vocal / instrumental section is flawless and overall Mint- is fair.

The 'orchestral' opening on 'Time Lament' is very clean with only a couple of seconds of light static as the volume decreases.  The opening vocal section is perfect - Farlowe definitely adds a different dimension to the vocals, an almost West End show type quality.  The long instrumental could not play any better, the sonic quality is incredible, and the end vocal plays with stunning precision also including the fade out.  Another Mint- track.

The piano intro on 'Take Me Back To Doomsday' is perfect - Clempson takes the vocal duties this time and the first vocal has no background whatsoever.  It continues in the same precise way - a powerful track and the depth on the audio is superb.  No interference from start to finish.  Mint

'The Daughter Of Time' plays with sublime quality through every vocal and instrumental section.  No surprise it's another powerful number and there is no distortion on the top end.  If anything there is not quite the same depth here but there is no doubting the quality of the audio.  Let's say Mint-

The opening chorus on 'Theme For An Imaginary Western' has no intrusion and the first verse is close to perfect with only a couple of minor statics.  The next chorus is faultless and from then on it plays so clearly and the power and depth of the audio is again stunning.  One static on the fade out so I will say Near Mint but some might think that is a little harsh.

Going back to their roots 'Bring Out Your Dead' plays with real quality for the vast majority.  There is a little static for 4/5 seconds during the first quiet section, a couple are a bit more like staticy ticks, and then the remainder plays to perfection.  I'll say Ex+ overall but the majority is certainly stronger than that.

The sax intro on 'Downhill And Shadows' plays with wonderful clarity with only a couple of non-intrusive statics and Farlowe's opening vocal has no background.  From then on the playback is outstanding!  Clarke's bass is so strong and deep and the mid instrumental is on an other level, great sound.  The final vocal is perfect as is the closing instrumental.  Mint-

Every singer needs a break I guess and the live version of Hiseman's 'The Time Machine' plays with superb audio through every section.  It certainly shows off his skills and with only a couple of minor statics throughout the entire 8+ minutes Mint- is more than deserved.

The Gatefold & Vertigo Inner Sleeve

The cover is in superb condition with only minimal shelf wear.  In fact the only wear is a little rubbing near the bottom of the front cover and some wear on the bottom two corners, the other corners are very clean.  The spine has only 3/4 minor rubs and the opening edge has only the bare minimum of handling wear on the back edge.  The back cover has only minor ringwear and the inside of the gatefold is incredibly clean.  A very strong example.

The Vertigo inner has two small side splits and just a little age related fading around the edge and some light creasing.  It no longer has the original poly-liner so I have replaced it with another one.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
