Description
For sale is a fantastic copy of the COLOSSEUM recording from 1969 in excellent condition, "VALENTYNE SUITE".
This is a first UK pressing on the Vertigo swirl label with the very first 1Y-1 and 2Y-1 matrix numbers. This has the Philips Records text on the label, and the large Vertigo swirl centre on side A.
Album cover is the original matt (non laminated) gatefold. Bottom edges have VERY light shelf wear. Top edges and spine are even better, with no real wear to mention. The inner gate is in a quite superb condition. There is no ringwear evident on this cover at all. I would strictly grade this cover as EX- (excellent minus).
Inner sleeve is the original large swirl type. This has some minor age discolouration and light creases to its corners. There is no edge damage (slits or tears etc). A very solid example for 41 years old. grades as EX- (excellent minus).
The labels and vinyl playing surfaces (visually) are in a truly excellent shape. This is a very well cared for vinyl and shows around 6 spindle marks per side, so is certainly not over played. There are no marks of note to the vinyl. The poly-lined inner sleeve has helped keep this in a quite remarkable condition. Labels and vinyl easily grade as EX.
The sound quality produced from this heavyweight first pressing is lovely. Sound is powerful and detailed. It has a crispness and clarity that really impress. There are no annoying loud pops or clicks. Of course there are no sticks or skips either. What you have here is a copy that plays as well as it looks (excellent). 41 years old? You certainly would not know it. The winner of this will be well pleased!
A hard to find album in this kind of condition, for saying it is now nearly 42 years old. I seriously believe you would struggle to find a copy that betters this significantly.
So. A genuine UK pressing with the very first matrices. Cover EX-, vinyls EX, and sound quality EX. It does not get much better than this.
