Album / Record Title: COLOSSEUM - VALENTYNE SUITE

Rarity: EXTREMELY RARE - the first album to be released on the PHILIPS VERTIGO LABEL and as such has the distinctive status of being VO 1. The Vertigo variants are all rare and only seen from time to time, but the only way to be certain that you have an EARLY FIRST UK PRESSING is to make sure the ‘A PHILIPS RECORD PRODUCT’ credit is printed on the bottom of the ‘B’ side label between the outline VERTIGO name and ‘All Rights….’ text on the bottom perimeter - which was dropped after the FIRST ISSUE. There is a just slightly earlier variant gatefold which also has the credit printed on the inside centre spread of the gatefold bottom right - this was removed even earlier than the label credit BUT ALL VINYLS CARRYING THE PHILIPS CREDIT WERE PRESSED DURING THE SAME INITIAL FIRST PRESS PRODUCTION RUN.  This feature along with the SWIRL LABELS - noting that the ‘A’ side has the original full swirl and the ‘B’ side has the large logo variant (later re-pressing and re-issues have a smaller swirl logo and no Philips credits) - are unique to the EARLIEST FIRST ISSUES and ONLY THE VARIANT WITH ALL OF THESE CHARACTERISTICS AND THE FIRST MATRICES, FIRST MOTHERS & STAMPERS LISTED BELOW ARE FROM THE VERY EARLIEST FIRST UK ISSUE, THEY ARE ALSO PRESSED ON NOTICEABLY HEAVIER VINYL. This one is from EARLIEST ORIGINAL UK PRESS probably made just prior to the commercial release date in 1969 - ANDJUST LOOK AT THOSE 1 & 1 MOTHER & STAMPER CODES, YOU WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND A MUCH EARLIER PRESSING THAN THIS. To add to the already impressive rarity value this has one of the BEST VINYLS I have seen with any example of this album for a very long time. AND PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT THE SOUND OF THE RECORD IS INCREDIBLE LOUD AND SPACIOUS, AWESOME!
