Description

COLOSSEUM - VALENTYNE SUITE

Nice condition 1969 UK 1st press rock-jazz gem with the brilliant STEREO sound quality being a true highlight

Year/Label : 1969 UK VERTIGO (large swirl) Label number : VO1 847 900 VTY Matrix numbers : 886775 1Y 1 420, 886775 2Y 1 420 Stampers :  11 14  /  11 14
Excellent (EX) condition vinyl - completely flat and retaining a beautiful jet black lacquered sheen. In normal daylight the vinyl comes across as completely unmarked and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that just a few small and wispiest of wispy hairlines and extremely faint paper scuffs can be identified on each side - each trivial, non-feelable (obviously), and not seeming to impact upon the brilliant stereo sound quality at all. The labels are in excellent plus (EX+) condition also with just a few small and extremely faint small spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each, otherwise perfect. Note the "PHILIPS" credit towards the bottom od the side 2 label - synonymous with very 1st UK pressings.  Clearly this is a record that has been only sparingly played.  A solid very good (VG) condition non-laminated outer gatefold sleeve with firm edges with mild intermittent scuffing on each of the top and bottom edges, a firm spine with all spine text remaining nicely intact and with a couple of small light scuff marks and the occasional tiny "nick", nicely defined right angled corners with a little mild rubbing on each, firm opening edges with no fraying, no cardboard creasing, no ring wear, and no unwanted writing. There are a couple of small and very light inconsequential handling/storage marks on each of the front and reverse sides and again a couple of light shelf wear marks towards the edges on the interior which is in otherwise great condition. All the brilliant and iconic art work, colours, and text remain crisp with great definition still. Do take a close look at my photos where I think you will agree that this copy remains very presentable despite it's few minor blemishes and 57 year antiquity!  Excellent plus (EX+) stereo sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, or background crackle/interference. There are x6 very, very light clicks towards the beginning of "Butty's Blues" (for which close inspection could reveal no obvious cause) and a tiny mark midway through "The Machine Demands A Sacrifice" (looks like a manufacturing fault) results in x3 very, very light clicks also (again, you will need to listen out for these clicks in order to notice them). What a brilliant and much underrated rock-jazz-blues album this remains, and no wonder with legendary musicians such as Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith and Dave Greenslade in top form - every track is a cracker! There is no Vertigo swirl inner sleeve...instead the vinyl comes with a "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS" poly-lined inner sleeve with some creasing in the corners and a 6cm split in one of the side edges - I will supply a new poly-lined inner sleeve as a matter of course.     An overall very nice condition copy of this 1969 UK 1st press Colosseum jazz-rock gem with the impressive sound quality being a real standout.
POSTAGE COSTS :

For the UK £3.38 using Royal Mail tracked 48 (ebay "Simple Delivery");

for continental Europe £12 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked and signed for,

and for the rest of the world £18 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked and signed for.

I do provide posting and packaging discounts for multiple purchases. I make no profit from postage.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
