COLUMBIA SAX 2398 Blue/Silver ? KLEMPERER MENDELSSOHN

Description

This is one of a number of vinyl records from the 1950’s & 60’s listed this week which we no longer listen to. Little played, the records are still in very good condition, the covers sometimes less so.

Gradings are based on the “Record Collector Magazine's Guide” set out in the eBay Guides together with notes about condition added. Extracts from the Gramophone Magazine review written at the time of the record’s release are included where these are available.

RECORD GRADING

EXCELLENT

There are very few surface marks on either side of this record and few spindle marks on the labels, suggesting it has been little played.

On side 1 there are some light repetitive sounds in two places. At 4 minutes 45 seconds there are 12 light pops and at 19 minutes there are 6 light clicks. There is one louder pop at 10 minutes and surface noise is apparent during some silent passages, notably at 15 minutes.

On side 2 there are about a dozen very light repetitive ticks at 4 minutes. And at 20 minutes there are a small group of clicks and pops for a few seconds.

These apart, the only sounds of which I was aware on both sides were the characteristic vinyl roar and some dust clicking.

Like so many records of this era, both sides would undoubtedly benefit from a clean. However, none of these extraneous sounds I have noted impair the enjoyment of this lovely recording.

COVER GRADING

VERY GOOD

The cover has no serious damage, just light wear and scuffing to the corners and edges. As the photograph shows, there is an impact mark just to the right of centre on the front face and a couple of small chips at its base. The back is a little discoloured with a few spots on the binding strips.

I have no wish for you to be disappointed by your purchase. If you think the grading/description was unfair or unreasonable when you receive the record, you may return it and you will have a full refund of all that you have paid me.

All I require is that you contact me within 7 days of its receipt to tell me you intend to return it, and that I receive the record in the same condition as it was when it was sent to you.

MINT

Record       In brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality

Cover         In perfect condition, as are extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster

EXCELLENT

Record       Shows signs of having been played, but with very little lessening in sound quality

Cover         Slight wear and / or creasing to the cover or its contents

VERY GOOD

Record       Obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch

Cover         Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects

GOOD

Record       Played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, and there may be some distortion and mild scratches

Cover         Suffers from folding, scuffed edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

• In the interest of all concerned this will be by  Royal Mail International Signed-for  OR Royal Mail Airsure service, dependant on the intended location, both of which provide proof of postage and confirmation of delivery. The packet will be sent with the appropriate level of insurance cover for its final auction price.
