COMETA MUSIC HALL / COMETA MUSIC HALL ... 7-inch, 45rpm gatefold single for COMETA DISCOTHEQUE music written by ALFIO CONTARINO / ALESSANDRO GIACOBONE and VINCENZO DRAGHI. Original Italian pressing on PHANTOM label (PH 004), from circa late '70s. Strung-out and insanely good space disco / futuristic synth funk grail by unknown musicians. Recorded at Studio Phantom Tortona as a product placement jingle for the legendary Cometa Discotheque in Alexandria, Italy. This is a holy grail disco oddity and arguably, even more elusive than Andromeda on the Papaya label. Our COMETA MUSIC HALL item is maybe the hottest of the genre with a theme that truly captures the hedonistic / drug fuelled / electronic sound of the late '70s Italian discotheque scene. The 1st version of COMETA MUSIC HALL on our soundclip is super-sleazy with a killer hypnotising groove. Thumping syncopated drums and obsessive funky bassline / stoned vocals / cosmic synthesizers and a murky dub production that goes deeper as the theme progresses. Dark, psychedelic and experimental like a deviant Italian take on the Giorgio Moroder proto techno sound. The track will soon be comped on a CD-only selection called I-Robots Presents Turin Dancefloor Express 70's - 80's Piedmont Area Italo Rare Grooves, Disco & Not Disco Sounds Vol 1 by Gianluca Pandullo for his Opilec Music label. The 2nd version of COMETA MUSIC HALL is actually a glam fuelled rock theme with disco tempo drums / fuzz distortions / funky keyboard solos / drum breaks and faux crowd shouting intro - outro. The vocals are also sung in English with more props to the Cometa Discotheque. Something that would not be out of place on a Junk Shop Glam compilation. A wonderfully enigmatic double-sider for sure :) Great for DJs. Big record... highly prized with certain disco connoisseurs. Same cult label as Gino Pavan - Magico and The One "O" One's ?- Radio Cosmo Disco masterpiece. Striking gatefold picture sleeve showing images of the futuristic design interiors / dancefloor / bar and DJ booth of the Cometa discotheque. Seldom comes up for sale. Very rare 45!!!

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Vinyl is in shiny, VG/VG+ condition overall with some hairlines / scuffs and old pressing marks. Light surface noises. A few soft pops / soft ticks in places (as you can hear on our soundclip). Loud production sound. The laminated fragile gatefold picture sleeve is graded strong VG with spine split / tear and wear (circa 2/3 of the spine has split). Laminate creasing and ring creasing from storage with a couple of small pen marks to front sleeve (black marker so not really visible). Corner and edge wear. Very rare 45!!!
