Description

Contrevent
" Youkali "

1989, CTV-1989, Private pressing, Canada

Obscure Quebec progressive jazz-funk-rock-fusion from the short-lived Contrevent, who only came together in 1985.....at the very end of Quebec's prog boom.....and accordingly, their 3 privately-released albums quickly vanished totally un-noticed by potential buyers.

This was the final vinyl LP to be released by this great all-instrumental guitar-violin-vibraphone-dominated quintet......an album that will appeal to fans of fellow Quebec bands like Maneige, l'Orchestre Sympathique, Concept Neuf and Miriodor.

Independantly released by the band......to neglible sales (split between cassette, vinyl and CD)...... at the very end of the classic vinyl era, this album is now particulary hard-to-find in it's original vinyl version.....even in their home-based province of Quebec.

Marc Vallée - guitars, synth, piano
François Beausoleil - vibraphone, percussion
Russell Gagnon - cello
Gérard Paradis - bass, contrabass
Charles Paradis - drums, percussion

Tracks:
Mallorca
Memoires de Perles
Youkali
Café Noir
Une Main Qui Se Pose
Anti-statique
Le Bois de la Cambre
Trapezoid
