We described Controlled Death's 2018 album, the suitably noisy and dystopian "Symphony For The Black Murder" as sounding like, "Swans and Cradle of Filth getting together in Squarepusher's studio to create a tribute to Lou Reed's 'Metal Machine Music'." The Japanese artist's latest album, the grimly titled "Ritualistic Mutilation In The Bloody Darkness", is perhaps not quite as stylistically wild, but it is impressively bleak and doom-laden. It consists of four lengthy noise workouts, where droning electronic tones, impressively distorted guitars and distorted feedback are layered and mutilated in a variety of unsettling, mind-altering ways. Fans of noise releases will be in their element - it's certainly an impressive example of the style - but those with more melodic inspirations may feel a little lost and disorientated.
